In the studio

We are very fortunate to have a home studio to do our recording in - we affectionately call it Fat Catz Studio  - our 20 year old cat Pokey likes to get right in the mix when we are working.

Our self-titled CD that came out last fall has been doing well - we have been recording for our next CD - the process has been quite different form the first. For the first CD, the concept truly just came together within a matter of a week or so - everything from the songs we wanted to record to the cover art and artist we wanted to use and packaging design.

This new project feels quite different - it feels "backwards" to the way we did it last time. we are recording a lot of material but the overall concept for the CD is still evolving - one thing that we do feel is important to do is to really put this CD together in a way that lets our arrangements and earthy, acoustic styling of the songs we put on the CD be unmistakeably RagTop - we have a sound that is ours - we are not trying to robotically and digitally reproduce the original artist's song - there is no point to doing that - it has been done - but we want to capture the signature riffs - the hooks of the song that when you hear it you instantly recognize that song. Then, once you recognize it and you begin to listen to where we take our arrangement of that familiar song - you are on a musical journey and enjoying the ride. Simultaneously, there is something very familiar - there is something very fresh.

Now we just have to get that on a CD and packaged up and we are good to go! (LOL - it is never that easy)
